art trails in Lomagne and Faudoas

Artistic walks in Lomagne | Faudoas

During your stay in our gîtes in Faudoas, set off to explore the Artistic trails in Lomagne. Between Saint-Clar and Tournecoupe, this cultural outing offers the chance to discover contemporary artworks integrated into the rural heritage of the Gers. Murals, letters scattered throughout the village and artworks on display in public spaces provide an original way to explore the bastides and small villages of the region. Easy to organise as a half-day or full-day outing, this artistic walk is ideal for couples, families and groups of friends looking for something a little different to do around Faudoas.

An artistic discovery between Saint-Clar and Tournecoupe

The Lomagne region of the Gers is not just about its rolling countryside, its markets and its charming villages. It also offers a fascinating journey of discovery centred on illustration and art in public spaces. In the Bastides de Lomagne area, several villages are home to contemporary artworks that transform a simple stroll into a cultural experience.

This activity offers several benefits. It can be enjoyed at your own pace, without any particular time constraints, allowing you to admire the outdoor artworks. It also combines artistic discovery with visits to villages where the heritage has been preserved. So you don’t just view a work of art; you also explore historic streets, market squares, ramparts and vantage points overlooking the Gers countryside.

In the area around Faudoas, two stops are particularly worth visiting on this walk: Saint-Clar and Cutting tool. These two villages offer a well-organised, accessible day out that’s easy to fit into your holiday itinerary.

See the Chicha murals in Saint-Clar

In Saint-Clar, the so-called frescoes Shisha add a splash of colour and a contemporary touch to the heart of the village. They were created by the artists from Ruta Madre, in a style inspired by Peruvian popular graphic culture. This visual influence gives the works a strong, highly recognisable identity, which contrasts with the fair-coloured stones and traditional architecture of the village.

It’s easier to find them once you know where they are. According to information from the ‘Itinéraires Artistiques en Pays Portes de Gascogne’, the artworks in Saint-Clar are well worth discovering on the wall of the village hall as well as’at the Saint-Clar skate park. This detail helps to avoid a search that is too vague within the village and makes the walk run more smoothly.

A visit to Saint-Clar can therefore be organised in a very practical way. You can start in the village centre to enjoy its arcaded squares and its typical bastide atmosphere, then make your way to the locations of the murals. The contrast between the built heritage and the street art creates an interesting route, appealing both to photography enthusiasts and to visitors who are simply curious to discover another side of the Gers.

This stop is often popular with families, as the murals catch the eye and bring the visit to life. They also offer a change of pace if you’d like to round off your stay with an outdoor cultural activity, without having to visit a traditional museum or exhibition.

Follow Tournecoupe’s typographic journey

After Saint-Clar, you can continue your exploration in Cutting tool, another charming village offering a unique art trail. Here, it is not a single large mural, but a typographic journey title Upside Down, conceived by the artists Thomas Deudé and Stéphane Castet.

The concept is both playful and poetic. Letters appear in the urban landscape, in the form of paintings, graphic interventions or elements discreetly incorporated into the built environment. The walk then becomes a kind of observation game. You look more closely at the walls, the details of the streets, the façades and the views. This approach gives the village a more creative feel and makes the stroll particularly enjoyable.

To make it easier to plan your visit, the local tourist office suggests the following landmark as a point of reference Place de la Halle, 32380 Tournecoupe. It’s an excellent starting point for exploring the village on foot and setting off in search of the various letters scattered around public spaces.

One advantage of this activity is that it is suitable for a wide range of people:

  • families, which can turn the walk into a little treasure hunt; ;
  • art and graphic design enthusiasts, with an appreciation for the craft of writing and composition; ;
  • visitors on holiday, who want to experience a village in a different way; ;
  • walkers, who enjoy peaceful and accessible routes.

Tournecoupe also boasts a very pleasant setting, with its historic heritage and views of the surrounding countryside. The art trail blends seamlessly into a tour of the village, without detracting from its authentic atmosphere.

Useful tips for organising your art walk

To make it easy to organise this activity during your stay, here are the key points to bear in mind:

  • In Saint-Clar: The Chicha murals can be found on the wall of the village hall and at the skate park.
  • In Tournecoupe: The ‘Sens Dessus Dessous’ typography trail can be accessed from Place de la Halle, 32380 Tournecoupe.
  • Type of business: an outdoor cultural walk.
  • Duration: Allow half a day to explore both villages at a leisurely pace.
  • Audience: couples, families, groups of friends, and lovers of heritage and photography.
  • Recommended time of year: all year round, though it’s best to go on a sunny day so you can make the most of a stroll through the streets.

This outing can also be rounded off with a gourmet break in a neighbouring village, a visit to other sites in Lomagne, or a stroll through the old streets. It therefore fits very easily into a stay of a few days in the Faudoas area.

A cultural outing during your stay in Lomagne

Choosing the art trails in Lomagne means opting for an activity that offers a change from more traditional sightseeing. Here, the appeal lies not just in a monument or a one-off event, but in an experience of gradual discovery. You proceed at your own pace, observe the artworks in their surroundings and take the time to appreciate the link between contemporary art and local heritage.

This outing is particularly interesting if you’re looking for an activity:

  • original, which is different from a simple stroll through the village; ;
  • accessible, without any complex organisation; ;
  • cultural, but easy to appreciate even without any particular knowledge of art; ;
  • local, deeply rooted in the identity of the Bastides de Lomagne.

Hélène

I don't know where to begin to say how exceptional this venue is. We celebrated our wedding this weekend and frankly we don't regret our choice of a small wedding in a venue like this. Everything is done to make you feel at home, the facilities are top quality and very tasteful. All our guests were delighted to spend 4 days in this haven of peace with jacuzzi and sauna. Thank you to Virginie who always listens and makes herself available, you really are a great host. Thank you again for making our wedding unforgettable.

I recommend Virginie's gîte, we had a great weekend for a birthday party. The rooms are large and there's nothing lacking for young and old alike in the house. From the jacuzzi we had a view over the fields, which was a great way to unwind.
Everything was perfect, and we'll be delighted to come back, as we're not about to forget all the good memories we've made at the Un air de famille gîte.
Thanks again Virginie and congratulations on the beautiful renovation of the house.

Céline

Very good stay in this accommodation, which has a lot to do with it. Everything is there, it's spacious and cosy, and there are lots of activities, which makes it a perfect place for a family holiday. The environment is peaceful and perfect for a nice break. There were 13 of us, including 7 children, and we all loved our stay and enjoyed this very comfortable, sublime and simple house. Well done for making your project such a success!
